GA4 Property Names for BigQuery — Chrome Extension

Summary

This extension accesses the names and IDs of your Google Analytics 4 properties so it can label matching BigQuery datasets in the Google Cloud Console. All data stays on your own computer, inside the Chrome extension's local storage. Nothing is sent to any server operated by the developer, and nothing is shared with any third party.

Data Accessed

When you click Connect in the extension popup, the extension asks you to sign in with a Google account and requests a single OAuth scope:

• https://www.googleapis.com/auth/analytics.readonly — read-only access to your Google Analytics configuration.

Using that scope, the extension calls exactly one Google Analytics Admin API endpoint:

• GET https://analyticsadmin.googleapis.com/v1beta/accountSummaries

From the response, the extension reads and keeps only two fields per GA4 property that is already visible to the signed-in Google account:

• GA4 property ID (numeric)
• GA4 property display name (the human-readable label you set inside Google Analytics)

The extension does not access, read, collect, or transmit any of the following Google user data:

• Analytics event data, user data, audiences, conversions, revenue, or any reporting data
• Google account profile information (name, email, photo) beyond what Chrome surfaces locally during the sign-in prompt
• BigQuery contents, schemas, or query results
• Browsing history, keystrokes, form inputs, page content, or cookies

Data Usage

The two fields above are used for one purpose only: to display a small badge with the property's display name next to any text on console.cloud.google.com pages that matches the BigQuery dataset pattern analytics_<property_id>. This makes GA4 BigQuery exports easier to recognize at a glance.

The data is not used for advertising, profiling, model training, analytics, telemetry, or any purpose other than rendering the on-page badge described above. The extension contains no AI/ML components and does not send Google user data to any AI/ML model.

Once connected, the extension refreshes the property-name mapping approximately once every 24 hours via chrome.alarms. Each refresh performs the same single Admin API call described above. No other background network activity occurs.

Data Sharing

Google user data accessed by this extension is never shared with any third party, and is never transferred to any server operated by the developer. There is no developer-operated backend.

The extension contains no analytics, telemetry, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs. The only network request it makes is the direct call from your browser to Google's Analytics Admin API, authenticated with your own OAuth credentials via Chrome's built-in Google sign-in. Google's handling of that request is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Data Storage & Protection

All data accessed by this extension is stored only on your own device, inside the browser's per-extension sandbox using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API. Specifically, the extension stores:

• ga4Annotations — the map of GA4 property IDs to display names.
• annotations — manual overrides you enter yourself.
• ga4Connected — a boolean indicating whether you have connected your Google account.
• ga4LastSync — a timestamp of the last successful sync.

The OAuth access token issued by Google is not stored or read by the extension's own code. It is held and refreshed by Chrome's chrome.identity API, scoped to this extension only and inaccessible to other extensions or web pages.

Protection measures:

• Transport security: the only outbound request is over HTTPS/TLS to analyticsadmin.googleapis.com.
• Browser sandboxing: chrome.storage.local is isolated per extension and is not readable by web pages or other extensions.
• Minimum scope: only the read-only analytics.readonly scope is requested; no write or delete capability is granted.
• Minimum data: only the property ID and display name are read from the API response; all other fields are discarded.
• No server-side surface: because there is no developer-operated backend, there is no server-side database that could be breached.
• Open source: the full source code is published at github.com/Liscor/ga4-property-names-for-bigquery so the data flows can be independently verified.

Data Retention & Deletion

Because no Google user data is ever transmitted to a developer-operated server, the developer retains no copies of your data. The only retained copy lives in your own browser's local storage and is overwritten on each daily sync.

Data is retained on your device only as long as you keep the extension installed and connected. You can delete it at any time using any of the following methods, which take effect immediately:

• Disconnect in the extension: open the extension popup and click Disconnect. This revokes the cached OAuth token, deletes all synced property names from local storage, and cancels the daily background sync alarm.
• Revoke at the Google account level: visit myaccount.google.com/permissions and remove access for "GA4 Property Names for BigQuery". This invalidates the OAuth grant for this extension.
• Uninstall the extension: remove the extension from chrome://extensions. Chrome automatically deletes all of the extension's local storage when it is uninstalled.

Children

This extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone under the age of 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a material way, the Last updated date at the top of this page will be updated and, where appropriate, users will be notified through the extension. Previous versions of this page are available via the repository's commit history.
